Khiri Travel’s roundup of new and intriguing hotel options from around the region….

Novotel Kamala Beach, Phuket, Thailand

Where can we find this hotel?

One of the things people look for when booking a holiday is easy access to the beach. To be directly located on the beach is a plus. Especially when you talk about a great beach like Kamala. An ideal place for couples, families or just about anybody who is looking for a quieter option than the busier beaches such as Patong and Kata. Novotel Kamala, a newcomer to Phuket delivers just that.

Why do we like it?

From the pool, it is just a few meters till you hit the sand. No roads to cross, just walk a few meters and one can enjoy the blue waters of the Andaman sea. On the rooftop, there are great views from the lounge. The hotel also has a spa, kids club and a gym, as well as all the amenities you would expect from a new property.

What can we do in the surroundings?

It is just a short drive to Surin beach. Or if you don’t want to go far, a short walk along the beach will take travelers to massage parlors, local restaurants and beach bars in Kamala. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus service to Patong for those who want to experience the bustling side of Phuket.

Aye Yar River View Resort, Bagan, Myanmar

Where can we find this hotel?

The resort is located in the heart of old Bagan on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. It started as a guesthouse of the Burma Airways Corporation in the 1950s, which was able to build the hotel on one of Bagan’s prime riverside locations. Today, this gives easy access to the jetty for sunset cruises.

Why do we think it’s special?

The beautifully renovated Aye Yar Riverview hotel has tropical gardens, a beautiful swimming pool and spacious rooms. We especially like the Grand Deluxe rooms. They are nestled in the middle of the gardens with easy access to the swimming pool on one side and a view on the river on the other.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

Similar accommodation options to the Aye Yar River View Resort in Bagan are the Areindamar, Tharaba and Bagan Lodge.

Mandarin Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

What’s it like?

The Mandarin Hotel dates from 1965 and is now managed by Centre Point. A two-year renovation has given the hotel a contemporary modern style. The leading room type is the Deluxe room (30 sqm). Seven are connecting. All rooms feature double glazed windows to reduce traffic noise. The hotel has all the usual facilities plus a medium sized fitness center and swimming pool.

What are the surroundings like?

The hotel is located on Rama IV Road in Bangkok’s downtown area. Guests have very easy access to places such as Chinatown, Lumphini Park, Hualamphong railway station, Siam Square shopping district, and art galleries around Silom and Sathorn roads.

Why do we like it?

They did a great job with the renovation. The rooms look very smart, although a bit formal, and we can offer this property for a great price to various markets.

Paradise Suites, Halong, Vietnam

Why do we think its special?

The Paradise Suites is the first luxury boutique hotel in Halong. We like that it’s built in a residential area but still conveniently close to Tuan Chau’s marina with a view of the Halong seascape. The building is only four stories tall and will operate with 108 rooms.

What are its rooms like?

The rooms are bright with snow-white walls and beddings combined with fine dark wood furniture. The large windows let a lot of light come in and the rooms come with facilities like a sound system, large flat-screen smart TV, and safe-deposit box. All rooms are 32sqm, which allows space for an extra bed.

Where can we find this hotel?

The hotel can only be reached via a 2 km road leading to the hotel’s prime location on the island of Tuan Chau. The 400-hectare island is great for a leisurely walk. Halong City is about 10 kms away. The hotel is located within walking distance from the Marina and Paradise vessels offering overnight trips to Halong Bay.

Hua Chang Heritage Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

Where can we find this hotel?

The modern contemporary boutique hotel is located at a prime location in Bangkok: a five-minute walk to the MBK Centre, Siam Paragon and other leading shopping malls in the city. Plus it’s very close to BTS skytrain. At the back of the hotel is the Saen Saeb canal, from where guests can take the canal boat to Bangkok’s Rattanakosin island – famous for Khao San Road, the Grand Palace and temples like Wat Pho.

Why do we like it?

The Hua Chang Heritage Hotel is a brand new hotel ideal for couples looking for privacy and space. The high-tech equipped and spacious rooms allow travelers to take control by a panel next to the bed. Enjoy music while taking a shower with “surround sound” from the ceiling. The theme is glamorous luxury. Rooms come with full-length windows. We also like the free-form pool in a tropical garden.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

In the surroundings of Siam Square are many accommodation options to be found in a variety of classes. There are, for example, the Siam Kempinski, the Novotel Hotel Bangkok, Holiday Inn Express and Mercure hotels and budget options such as Lub D and the Ibis hotel.
