Indonesia and Vietnam Come With Visa Free Entry
There was welcome news from Southeast Asia this week about Indonesia extending visa free entry for additional countries in an effort to boost tourist arrivals. 30-day visa free access is now allowed for citizens of USA, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium, among others. There are “buts” as Khiri Travel’s branch manager in Yogyakarta, Herman Hoven, points out, “For now this is only for five airports including Bali, Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya and Batam (not Lombok or Yogyakarta). However, most Khiri Travel arrivals are to Jakarta and Bali anyway.”
Likewise, in order to end a one-year decline in tourist arrivals, Vietnam has officially announced 15-day visa free entry starting July 1 for Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. Vietnam has had great success in the past using visa waivers to boost tourist numbers.
These changes will definitely make a difference in the region. Travelers will appreciate the cost savings and faster lines at immigration. According to Khiri Travel Vietnam’s Country Manager, Florencia Allo Moreno, “Until now travellers had to pay a fee of USD 45, which sometimes pushed people away from coming to Vietnam. We heard from our travellers how annoying this visa process was, so we are happy that more countries are exempt.”
