The Spotlight On: New Tourism Business Opportunity for Mr. Niluksha

May 4, 2015 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , ,

Every month we put the spotlight on one of the key players who make it happen for your privileged clients. This month, get to know Sri Lankan guide Mr. Niluksha, and his eagerness to do a good job.

Can you please tell us about yourself?

My name is Niluksha. I am 25 years old and I live with my wife in a village 35 km south of Anuradhapura. Before I started working for Khiri Travel, I was just a poor man carrying vegetables to the stalls at the market. I didn’t earn very much, about USD 3-5 per day.

What is your responsibility with Khiri Travel?

I provide home cooking and serve a picnic lunch for Khiri Travel’s guests who come to visit Sri Lanka’s ancient capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Anuradhapura.

How did your cooperation with Khiri Travel Sri Lanka start?

I found out about this through a friend of my family. Khiri Travel wanted to hire someone to arrange and host a picnic lunch of traditional foods for their travelers visiting the tourist attractions of Anuradhapura. I am amazed that Khiri Travel has invested in me. The picnic materials are very good quality. I will do my best and am so grateful!

How is this new job going?

My wife is an amazing cook so, working together, we prepare food and share our local customs with our picnic guests. We start at 5 am to start cooking and prepare everything for the picnic lunch. This is a really great idea and I hope our guests like it. Now I have a chance to earn more income. My wife and I do not have children yet, but one day I hope to and I would like to earn enough to put them in a good school.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I love visiting the sites of Anuradhapura and walking around the ruins of this ancient kingdom imagining how the kings and royal people lived in the past. This place is one of the oldest cities in the world and was the first capital of our country. I also like to talk to my friends, drink fresh coconut water and eat pol sambol, a popular Sinhalese dish made with ground coconut, chili and spices.
