Intha Women Boat Racing at Myanmar’s Inle Lake

January 30, 2017 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under:

This tour features a spectacular and fun way to gain insight into the traditional boat racing culture of the Intha people, known for their one-legged rowing fishermen.

Khiri Travel Myanmar has recently introduced an exclusive activity for your clients at Inle Lake: boat racing. Combining the aim of empowering the local population and the desire to create exceptional experiences is what led us to develop this new idea.

During the year, different communities on the lake practice to become the yearly champion at the boat racing events in October. We let your clients participate with the training whereby two teams of 15 women on each boat practice and compete against each other. After the first round, your clients can even join one of the teams on their boat. This adventure tour is certainly an unforgettable event, supports Intha women on Inle Lake and helps to preserve the Intha boat racing culture.

Boat racing has a long tradition on Inle Lake and is celebrated on several occasions around the year. However, the most popular celebration and race time is in October during the full moon day of the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival. Your clients will have the unique chance of experiencing this spectacle first hand and even giving it a try as an eager participant!
