Khiri Travel Introduces Five New Inspiring Signature Tours in Laos

October 26, 2018 by Khiri Travel |

Khiri Travel Laos has just launched five brand-new Signature Experiences for the coming tourist season in the country’s key destinations that will provide clients with authentic activities and adventures – placing local people and their cultures at the heart of the travel experience.

First off is a home-cooking class in the former royal capital of Luang Prabang – a full day exploring Lao food first hand – from shopping in the local market to home-cooking, snack making and even whiskey tasting.

During the day you will cross the mighty Mekong River with Mrs Noy, your chef for the day, who will open up her simple home to you and teach you several delicious local dishes. Friendly villagers and Mrs Noy’s family will be there to greet you, but don’t expect an immaculate, modern-equipped kitchen, as the cooking class takes place in her own kitchen! At the end of the day, you will glide gently back up river to Luang Prabang, enjoying some Lao rice whiskey, while you sit back and soak up the beautiful river scenery.

Our second equally exciting experience in Luang Prabang provides clients with the opportunity to join a traditional baci ceremony in a local village. With a special invitation from the Nai Ban, or village chief, clients will be invited to join this unique ceremony – a revered practice in Lao culture used to celebrate important occasions, like births, marriages or entering the monkhood. Our baci ceremony is held at a private family home, making the experience all that more authentic.

The wild, mountainous terrain of Laos makes it one of the best countries in Southeast Asia for thrill seekers and adventure enthusiasts, with a taste for the unknown. On our signature tour in the wilds of Vang Vieng, you will begin with a kayaking trip down the Nam Song River, passing dense jungle and soaring limestone karst mountains.

Stops along the way include a visit to a local hill tribe village, where you will learn about animism, an ancient religious belief still practiced by some ethnic tribes in Southeast Asia. Other highlights of the trip include forging your own personalized knife, using techniques passed down through generations. Definitely a unique memory to take back home!
Back in the Laotian capital Vientiane our new signature tour here takes the form of a street food discovery excursion. We will start the tour with a visit to a local fresh market, where we will taste some traditional Lao coffee and snacks. Our guide will explain all the typical food products to clients and how the local people use them in their dishes.

A special focus of this tour is a stop off at a nice, quiet restaurant to see how a traditional kao piak (noodle soup) and papaya salad are made. The foodie experience comes to an end with a picturesque drive alongside the Mekong River and a stop off to enjoy a cold Beerlao and admire some spectacular river views.

Last but not least, our final signature tour is located in none other than the beautiful rural countryside of Si Phan Don, or ‘4,000 islands’ in Southern Laos. This oasis of tranquillity on the Mekong is home to farming and fishing practices that have remained unchanged for centuries. On this tour you board one of the local wood canoes and head out into the river, equipped only with your fishing net.

Once in the perfect spot our local fisherman with train you in the art of cast fishing – throwing the net by hand in a circular motion – not as easy as it looks! Enjoy some cool drinks while floating on the river, surround by the pristine nature of this beautiful river setting. Later in the evening a private barbeque with local specialties will be prepared for you in the same way it is done in many villages around Laos.
