Khiri Travel Introduces Stylish Tuk Tuks for Guests
Khiri Travel has introduced special designer tuk tuks to its ground operations in Luang Prabang in Laos and Siem Reap in Cambodia. More than just transport, the stylish and comfortable motorized rickshaws have been designed to be an enjoyable part of the local holiday experience.
With an Oriental style design and a Khiri driver and tour guide up front, the tuk tuks are a relaxed and informal way to enjoy the sights and sensations of the two heritage towns. The Luang Prabang tuk tuk (called “Jumbo”) has already been commissioned for a wedding shoot by guests who heard about it from staff at the Hotel de la Paix.
Ruben Derksen, Business Manager at Khiri Travel Laos, who conceived the tuk tuk idea, said that the two vehicles give guests a much more sensory open-air experience compared to sitting in a minivan.
“I was frustrated with how uncomfortable the tuk tuks in Luang Prabang were, so I had one built that guests would really enjoy to use,” he said.
For added pleasure, each tuk tuk has a water cooler for cold drinks and hand towels. Jumbo can sit four guests in comfort, the Cambodian remork (tuk tuk) two.
“Riding a well-appointed tuk tuk through exotic surroundings is one of the simple pleasures of a holiday in the Mekong area,” said Derksen. “It’s not just about getting from ‘A’ to ‘B’, it’s about enjoying your holiday in vintage style.”
The tuk tuks are being used for city tours and airport transfers in Luang Prabang, and for city tours to Angkor Wat and around Siem Reap town.
Travel companies can brand each tuk tuk with traditional wooden signage. In Luang Prabang, the tuk tuk has an extendable luggage rack for airport transfers.
“We can serve champagne and luxury snacks on board. We can travel the small lanes in town in and around temples,” said Derksen. “Clients can quickly get on and off the tuk tuks to snap pictures or take part in any event going on along the way.”
