Khiri Travel Thailand marked its first calendar event of 2018 by celebrating International Environmental Education Day on January 26.

Thai staff and foreign volunteers, including Khiri’s Managing Director Khun Kritsana Harasarn manned the 10 different activity booths and used the theme of The Lorax from Dr. Seuss’s famous children’s book to focus on our relationship with the environment and nature.

Each station’s activities were designed to teach the kids of different ages, amongst other things, about proper recycling and separation at source; how to prevent food waste from further damaging the eco-system by composting; how to grow food from scraps and how each of us as individuals can help care for our planet.

Numerous donations and prizes were provided with much appreciation from Elephant Parade and Novotel Hotels and Resorts – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel, with the organisational support from Ground Asia and Khiri Reach.

Everybody had a great fun-filled and action packed afternoon with eco-bingo, recycling relay races, a ‘what’s in the bag?’ touch and guess game and Trash is Art activities with Koen Olie

The event concluded with a home-cooked picnic lunch using only paper and bio-degradable containers provided to the 200 kids, who joined from both local schools, along with the girls from Baan Rachawadee Ying – an orphanage for children with mental and physical disabilities.

Besides raising money for the home’s new Physiotherapy Building that will be built this year, Khiri Travel trained the staff and is setting up a proper garbage center, with separation bins for all the buildings and collection cages to ensure the home puts into practice the correct recycling system.

If you would like to help by contributing to the ongoing fund raising please follow this link and remember there is no such thing as a small donation!

The next calendar event will take place with Khiri Cambodia on March 3, 2018 for World Wildlife Day.
