Where can we find this hotel?

This homestay lodge is located off the beaten path in the mountains of northwestern Vietnam about 40 miles from the town of Sapa.

What is it like?

The lodge offers seven twin/double rooms and two family rooms with four beds each. This is a great example of a responsible travel initiative. All the rooms have a river view veranda furnished with comfortable couches for a perfect place to sit and enjoy a hot cup of coffee or watch the sunset with a local libation.

Why do we think it is special?

Nam Cang was built and is owned by a family of the Red Dao ethnic minority who has lived in this area for four generations. A great example of community-based tourism, this property is a beautiful place to go and the local villagers are very friendly people.

What is this hotel like?

This 3-star hotel is a mix of boutique and colonial style that gives its guests an unforgettable stay with its excellent services and restaurant.

Why do we like it?

This hotel has an outstanding location near the Luang Prabang night market and walking street. In the surroundings of the hotel, there’s plenty of dining and shopping options available. From local Lao food to more western influenced dishes. We at Khiri believe that staying in this property really adds to the Luang Prabang experience because of it’s renovated colonial building and downtown location.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Sanctuary Hotel is similar in style and it’s located nearby the Villa Santi Hotel.

What can we do in the surroundings?

The location of this hotel is great. It is walking distance from the central market, Pub Street and all the boutique shops in the city center.

What’s it like?

This is a 2-star hotel in a Khmer style building. The owners have given a retro feel to the restaurant and lobby. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and cultivate a great family atmosphere. Guests immediately feel at home when arriving at this Siem Reap accommodation.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Claremont Hotel is a good alternative but is a little more expensive. It also has a great location close to the riverside.

Where can we find this hotel?

The Forest Rock Garden Resort is a brand new 4-star hotel in the city of Anuradhapura located in north central Sri Lanka.

What are the surroundings like?

The 22 guest rooms and common spaces of the resort are buildings elevated on pillars so as not to disturb the forest life below. The hotel is surrounded by 50 acres of land with wild elephants that guests may see wandering below the elevated walkways that connect the resort buildings. The property also features a garden with statues of historic kings and a pool built like a pond in an ancient temple.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Ulagalla is a more high-end property in Anuradhapura but doesn’t have the same feel of ancient royalty like the Forest Rock Garden.

What are the surroundings like?

Kalaw is a beautiful town with many old villas dating back to the British colonial times. Back in the time, Kalaw was already popular because of its cool climate and breathtaking landscape. The resort, as the name suggests, sits on top of one of the hills that surround Kalaw with fascinating views of town and the surrounding mountains.

Why do we think it is special?

The bungalow accommodations are well designed and encircled by a beautiful garden. In the evenings, the front terrace gives great views of the sunset, while in the morning, the breakfast terrace is a perfect place to watch the sun rising from behind the mountains.

What are alternative options to this hotel?

The Amara Mountain Resort Kalaw is another good option for enjoying this hill station town.

What can we do in the surroundings?

This new hotel property is located only 10 minutes drive from Koh Sok National Park in Surat Thani Province, a great place to try canoeing or enjoy nature activities.

Why do we like it?

Anurak Community Lodge has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Guests can relax to the sound of the wind, the birds and summer insects. The bungalows are decorated with local woods in Thai tropical style. For families, there are connecting rooms and bicycles to borrow.

Why do we think it is special?

There is no need for air conditioning! The average temperatures during March to September are only 20-24 degrees and even cooler from October to February. In the evening, they serve grilled fruit and vegetables such as bananas, pineapple and corn.

Where can we find this hotel?

This small, 4-star boutique property is located about one hour north of the airport on Bali.

Why do we like it?

The Plataran Canggu is a high end luxury retreat ideal to start a Bali tour and perfect for honeymooners or families. Designed by the legendary Made Wijaya who instilled an appreciation for nature, this resort can be described as an exotic labyrinth of Balinese luxury. The private pool villas and rooms are quiet and invite relaxation after a long journey.
