Chin State, the western most division of Myanmar bordering India and Bangladesh, is the new frontier of exciting adventure travel in a previously off-limits area of Southeast Asia. This part of northwest Myanmar’s mountainous geography is devoid of modern amenities but provides a unique opportunity for overland travel between two popular tourist sites and archeological gems of ancient Burma: Bagan and Mrauk U. In between these two historically rich capitals of ancient kingdoms lie amazing natural beauty and the compelling culture of the Chin tribal peoples. 990 Khiri Myanmar_view on way to Matupi Khiri Myanmar has developed a new week long itinerary where, until now, tourism is very rare. This adventure program traverses the Chin Mountains through fantastic scenery where traditional villagers carve their steep landscape into velvet green rice terraces, rivers plunge through dense jungle and getting around usually means trekking on foot. 990 Khiri Myanmar_driving towards Chin State   990 Khiri Myanmar_on moterbike through forest   990 Khiri Myanmar_boat on laymyo river   After sightseeing around the temples of Bagan, your intrepid travelers must downsize their luggage to one small backpack. Expert local guides will lead, sometimes by 4-wheel drive, motorcycle or riverboat and often by walking or hiking. The overnight accommodations are very basic in village homes. Mosquito nets, blankets and bamboo sleeping mats are provided but bathroom facilities, if available, are very primitive. Points of interest include Kanpetlet and the 3000-meter summit of Mt Victoria, Matupi, and Thein Khaung, a beautiful village with a Christian church and the Chin women who have had their faces tattooed with an unusual array of lines. The final leg of this great adventure is a boat ride down the Lay Myo River to enter Rakhine State and the second temple city of Mrauk U. 990 Khiri Myanmar_chin lady with tattoo For more information and booking requests, please contact [email protected].
