Boutique Hotel Opens in Battambang

The Bambu Hotel adds a welcome new dimension to the emerging destination of Battambang in western Cambodia.

The Bambu Hotel opened for business 1 September in Battambang, western Cambodia. The hotel is owned by brothers Steve and Pat Talbot from the UK. The hotel provides a new and upscale option in Battambang.

Says Pat Talbot: “We were both of the opinion that there was a lack of good quality accommodation in Battambang. In fact, the only really good hotel is La Villa which, with only seven rooms, is usually full.”

He adds: “Wherever possible we have used local materials and local labour in the construction project. We were also keen to use a sympathetic design to our local environment and many architectural features have been “borrowed” from other buildings around town. We hope that we have created a modern yet traditional hotel in contrast to some of the uglier looking hotels that have cropped up recently in the city.”

The hotel has 16 rooms arranged in four traditionally inspired buildings, a sizable swimming pool, bar and restaurant. All rooms have a terrace or balcony, air-con, fan, mini bar, flat screen cable TV, DVD player, DVD library, iPod docker, room safe and en-suite bathroom.

Free Wi-Fi is provided in all rooms and there are also two computer terminals in reception for guests to use free of charge.

The hotel is located close to the Sangker River, a tranquil, small body of water that meanders its way through Battambang province. Remnant pockets of French colonial architecture are an attractive feature of the city, the 2nd largest in Cambodia. Battambang has a population of 250,000 with a notable ethnic mix of Chinese, Lao and Thai along with Khmer.
