Santani Wellness Resort & Spa, Kandy, Sri Lanka

Nestled in the misty Knuckles Mountain Range of central Sri Lanka, Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is a place of minimalist luxury, serenity, and relaxation. Situated on a 48-acre site, everything about the resort from dining to its design and expert staff focuses on providing guests with a unique experience of wellness and rejuvenation.

Santani’s minimalist design concept incorporates the careful use of space, providing a soothing environment that allows guests to focus on their wellness goals. The unique architecture has also been designed with energy efficiency in mind. Located high in the hills of the Kandy plateau, the resort does not require air conditioning and therefore saves on energy use.

The ideology that sustainability begins with people is at the core of Santani’s concept. Wellness packages are tailored to meet the needs of each individual guest using both Ayurvedic and Western concepts of treatment. Each guest begins their wellness journey with a health assessment by an Ayurvedic doctor and wellness concierge. They are then guided through the whole process to ensure their goals are achieved.

The resort also offers an array of outdoor activities including a 1,200 square-foot pavilion that provides the ideal space for yoga, Pilates, and cardio. There’s also the option to swim in the outdoor infinity lap pool overlooking the mountain scenery or bathe in the nearby fresh-water river. Other activities include meditation, nature walks, cycling, and hiking.

Awei Pila, Mergui Archipelago, Myanmar

Awei Pila, an exclusive private island resort, is set in a remarkable and fascinating destination, the Mergui Archipelago. The resort is located 80 km from the shoreline of Kawthaung, on the northernmost beach of Pila Island.

Guest areas at Awei Pila are centered around the reception area, restaurant, and pool, with rooms extending along the beachfront. Two types of villa accommodation are available, providing guests with either an Andaman Sea view or seclusion under the tropical forest trees.

Tented villas are designed around a light-weight insulated timber and fabric structure, an architecture that reinforces the feeling of a basecamp for exploration and adventure. The interiors are light and fresh, using white-washed timber lattice and duck cotton fabric walls, providing a soft and pleasant internal environment with plenty of natural light.

The secluded beach is surrounded by virgin forest with views overlooking the Andaman Sea, and the natural bay embraces a 600 meter-long beachfront, which is divided into two zones by a large rock formation, granting a select number of villas even further privacy.

Beyond the beach lies the lush jungle, offering guests shade beneath a canopy of exotic trees, while the adjacent hillside is accessible via a trail, opening up opportunities for further exploration of the island’s unique flora and fauna.

The Mergui Archipelago lies off the south coast of Myanmar and is comprised of hundreds of islands with stunning coral reefs and beaches. The archipelago is home to the seafaring indigenous Moken people and it’s also a haven for birds, notably the plain-pouched hornbill, as well as stunning marine life, including dugongs and turtles.
