A Year of Sustainable Progress

December 27, 2019 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: ,

2019 has been a big year for sustainability at Khiri Travel. We have been supported by our very active and motivated Green Teams, who are based in all our offices. As everyone at Khiri Travel is aligned with our core values of improving the triple-bottom-line: people, planet, and profit. We do our best to protect the environment while supporting local communities at the same time. We’re proud that all our teams regularly get involved in fun and meaningful events: from beach clean-ups, plastic-waste fishing, to donations and tree planting.

In March, our Khiri Indonesia team successfully passed our Travelife audit. The auditor Libby Owen Edmunds shared the following comment with us, “Khiri Travel is a fantastic example of a tour operator implementing sustainable and responsible tourism best practices across all aspects of its business. The staff are dedicated to ensuring that constant improvements are made. Sustainability and responsibility are an integral part of Khiri Travel, with these values clearly communicated to clients and their supply chain.”

Then in May, it was Khiri Myanmar’s turn to welcome the Travelife auditors, Anastacia Howe and Barbara Schott, to our office. They shared similar glowing remarks, “Khiri Travel remains one of the leading sustainable tour operators in Myanmar, with many best practice examples. The auditor has proposed that a few of these procedures be included in the Travelife Best Practice Section.” Some of our best practices aimed at promoting responsible tourism include ChildSafe training. Khiri Travel maintains that all our tour operators communicate key information to our guests on how to act appropriately around children. In addition, having guests be mindful of the local culture and their surroundings helps to protect local historical, archaeological, and culturally significant landmarks.

These past few weeks, we’ve had audits in our offices in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Hanoi, and Saigon, 2019 has been an important year dedicated to improving our operational processes and transparency.

As we continue to develop into a more responsible tourism company for 2020, January is already appearing to be very busy for offices. With three Travelife audits coming up in Thailand, Laos and Sri Lanka: our teams continue to rigorously inspect our supply chain by working with suppliers and sharing our existing sustainability policies and inspection guidelines with them. By maintaining clear communication with our local partners, we will all grow together in an environmentally-responsible way.

Khiri Travel believes in collaboration: together we can achieve more! We are an active member of the IDSC, the Indonesian DMC Sustainability Collaboration. Our mission is to stimulate and encourage growth within the tourism industry in a safe, sustainable, and healthy fashion. With the help of many industry peers, we can uphold these standards and compliance at every level of our supply chain, eventually spreading it out to the whole Indonesian archipelago.

Khiri Travel Vietnam is a founding member of Impact Vietnam, a network of responsible tour operators, promoting sustainable tourism. We are also part of the PATA/Travelife/Tour Operator Working Group, sharing experiences and supporting each other as we promote sustainability within the industry.

2020 will be a busy year for us, make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter at and to get all our news updates.
