Our top hotel choices in Asia for December 2019

December 26, 2019 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: ,

Here is a list of hotels in Asia that our staff recommends for December 2019.

THE PHOENIX, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Discover Yogyakarta while enjoying the luxury from a bygone era. The Phoenix Hotel is a colonial landmark built-in 1918, where guests will be immersed in the building’s unique history and heritage. As you first step into the hotel, learn about the first President, Sukarno, living here after Indonesia’s independence. Boasting Javanese and European elements, the intricate details and classic interior will take guests back to another world.

Ideal for travelers in search of unique and memorable experiences, the hotel’s location is ideal for traveling all over Yogyakarta. Centrally located and close to most popular destinations such as Tugu square, Malioboro Street, and Fort Vredeburg.

The Paprika Restaurant serves Indonesian, Western, and Chinese cuisine: relax in the open courtyard next to the French fountain. Cocktails and fine wines are served in the 1918s Lobby Bar where the hotel’s rich history is on full display. The rooms at this property feature all the modern amenities you need for a restful and relaxing stay.

Yogyakarta is a special region in Indonesia heavily influenced by Javanese culture. We recommend guests explore the legendary temples, fascinating Batik, and Wayang shadow puppet.

ROSEWOOD YANGON, Myanmar

Rosewood Yangon is the first property in Myanmar from Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. As its seventh location in Asia, this hotel continues in Rosewood’s tradition of blending the charm of old-world architecture with modern accouterments. By carefully restoring a building that was used as the New Law Courts during British-era Burma, and subsequently after Myanmar’s independence in 1984. This landmark building was used as the Police Commissioner’s office, Parliament’s Chamber of Nationalities, and the headquarters of the Burmese Socialist Programme Party. Boasting high ceilings and utilizing abundant natural light, most rooms also feature patios and balconies where guests can take in the views of the beautifully landscaped courtyards or the majestic Yangon River.

With 205 spacious rooms, the hotel features five distinct dining venues including a tea lounge and patisserie. The Chinese restaurant, rustic bistro, bar and cigar lounge, and panoramic rooftop bar are perfect places to relax in the evening. Recreational options include Sense, A Rosewood Spa, a rooftop infinity pool and a fitness studio.

Ceylon Wild Safaris, Sri Lanka

Ceylon Wild Safaris is easily one of our top picks from the line of new properties that opened its doors in 2019.

Located by the Kotchipathana “Wewa (Lake)” amidst the wilderness of the buffer-zone jungles in Yala National Park, Ceylon Wild Safaris is a laid-back tented camp with a focus on wildlife conservation. Their ongoing mission is to purchase unused land which are leftover from burn and slash agricultural operations: eventually, they transform and re-integrate them back into forest corridors. For this reason, they only utilize 2 acres of land for their campsite out of the 18 acres that they own.

They have six tents which come equipped ready for a comfortable night. These eco-tents include air conditioning, private restroom, and terrace. There are also plunge pools which are ideal for a dip after a safari.

Soak up the park’s stunning wilderness and observe all the biodiversity that creates the amazing Sri Lankan ecosystem and biome in the Yala National Park. Their game rangers are not only equipped with the passion and knowledge to guide you but also share in the enthusiasm of spotting rare wildlife “on foot.” Guests will learn about the art of tracking, the secrets of various trees, and discover the vivid colors of wildflowers. While driving towards the much less utilized blocks in the park, their guides will talk about how the Kingdom of Ruhunu and its Kings used the park in ancient times.

Villa Maydou, Luang Prabang, Laos

Take a fifteen-minute walk from the main part of town, and you will find yourself at this lovely boutique hotel. Villa Maydou features five beautifully maintained traditional Lao houses, renovated with hardwood to preserve their rustic charm. Spacious, quiet, and comfortable, it is a fantastic place to relax after a full day exploring Luang Prabang.

Lounge around on the outdoor terrace surround by a lush green garden, or take a dip in the quaint, but beautiful salt pool decorated with emerald green tiles. The restaurant has an excellent breakfast with fresh-squeezed fruit juices and home-made fruit jams perfect with your morning toast.

As the hotel is located near a monastery, you can see monks praying in the temple during the evening or even offer them alms in the morning. The friendly and helpful staff are always there to accommodate you. Enjoy Lao hospitality during your stay here and see the sights around Luang Prabang.

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, Thailand

After completing the hotel’s largest and most comprehensive renovation in its 143-year history, the River Wing in the Mandarin Oriental has re-opened! This restoration follows the opulent revamping of their Garden and Authors’ sections: with these makeovers, the hotel can re-establish itself as one of the best hotels in the metropolitan.

The section’s suites have been updated to further showcase the Chao Phraya River and highlight the spectacular riverfront view. With Modern-Thai accents, the layout also features more spacious guestrooms. Furthermore, we recommend taking a dip in either of the hotel’s lavish swimming pools: they have also been overhauled with additional cabanas and new landscaping.

Dining options in the hotel have also expanded as Lord Jim’s seafood restaurant shares their space with a two-Michelin-starred chef. Guests are invited to savor chef Takagi Kazuo Kyoto-style kaiseki menu. Walk past Lord Jim’s and sit down at the ten-seat teakwood counter, Kinu by Takagi features a ten-course dinner that changes daily. Enjoy meticulously prepared seafood with flawless execution that will surely delight your palate.
