Saigon Street Food Tour

July 31, 2014 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: , ,

Vietnam has a well-known and well-deserved reputation for exquisite cuisine. Their traditional dishes are unique in flavor and freshness and surprising in variety. When it comes to local alcohol and snack foods, travelers to Vietnam must plan to spend at least an entire afternoon, ideally a day, exploring different places serving traditional dishes and drinks.

So when in Rome, do as the Romans! The best way to get an insight into the Vietnamese culture pertaining to alcoholic beverages and snack food is by going local, with locals. At Khiri Travel Vietnam, in order to create the most authentic experience of this unique culture, we created the Motorbike Street Food Tour. It’s been a big hit for our customers so far this year!

Clients hop on the seat behind the motorbike driver and make visits to three different street food vendors. At each sidewalk stall, your travelers are able to sample some of the food items that each vendor serves and learn about the history and cultural significance of each dish. There is also an opportunity to visit the night market where travelers have a chance to sample more local foods and snacks including some exotic fruits found in Vietnam.

The highlight of this two-wheel adventure down the city side streets is to join one of the most popular Vietnamese food traditions: “a street barbecue.” The idea of this local tradition is to eat and drink as much as possible at one meal. The companion beverage to this indulgence of taste is the opportunity to try Vietnam’s home grown rice wine including varieties such as snake wine, ginseng wine and goat wine.

Together with our supplier, Khiri Travel Vietnam has also been developing another unique tour product we call Market Cuisine. The idea is that travelers start their day by visiting one of Saigon’s local fresh markets. With ripe produce, spices and herbs in hand, they move to a traditional house where they will be able to learn recipes and cook with the fresh and fragrant food they just bought!

During each of these activities and tours guests are accompanied by experienced local guides who will not only share their knowledge of Ho Chi Minh’s street food culture, but will also explain everything guests would like to know about ingredients, recipes, cooking methods; altogether the what, how and why of Vietnamese snack cuisine.
