In southeast Cambodia the coastal rural province of Kampot is blessed with a moist climate and fertile soil. The province is renowned for its pepper, reliable quality of fruit and for its sea salt – all of which contribute to some great local dining. Besides enjoying a great beach experience and fresh food, clients can also choose to spend a day to learn more about these crops and the role they play in rural Cambodian society.

Pepper Plantations
Kampot pepper is famous throughout Asia as well as in the worldwide gourmet business. Known for its quality, the pepper is much sought after and demand is ever increasing. Come with us and learn about the pepper and see firsthand the pepper being grown and harvested at the plantations. Do you know why some pepper is black and some light grey? Find this out and much more.

Southern Salt Fields
Leaving Kampot town it only takes a short drive to the salt fields, which are situated near the town. The salt season is April, the best time to see into the huts where the huge piles of salt are stored (Though these are kept locked it’s easy to peer through gaps in the door.). Gaze upon the seemingly endless fields of salt. Our guide explains the salt making process and its distribution to markets.

Khiri Travel Cambodia can also combine this with a trip to Phnom Sorsir temple and cave. The caves are majestic with Buddha statues attracting worshippers while incense wafts by on the air. While there, squeeze through a tight gap to get into the bat cave.

Fruit Plantations
Kampot is known as the durian growing region of Cambodia. You will have the chance to explore a fruit plantation and walk around before trying some of these exotic fruits with their hard spiky shells and evocatively rich flesh which is much prized across Asia, despite – or because of – its pungent smell.
