Meet Mrs. Kin Thida, a guide in Cambodia. She’s a real fan of the Cambodian homestays and can induce mouthwatering anticipation in traveler’s taste buds to try some delicious traditional Cambodian foods.
Please tell us about your connection with Khiri Travel?
I have been a tour guide at Khiri Travel Cambodia for almost 6 years. I like this kind of work because the clients are kind and I can earn a good salary to support my two children and myself. My mother tongue is Khmer and I am also skilled in English. I work mostly with Western clients from Holland, the UK and Australia going on tours in Phnom Penh and in the provinces of Cambodia.
What do you do in your leisure time?
I like shopping in Phnom Penh and learning more about the history of my country. For relaxation, I like to go to the coast for the fresh air and activities like diving and fishing. For Khmer food, I recommend three dishes: prahok, fermented fish paste seasoning, fish amok or traditional Cambodian seafood curry and Khmer loc lac beef with lime.
What is for you the best destination to travel in Cambodia?
I would like to suggest the new destination such as a community homestay so travelers can know how Cambodian people live and join some activity with a host family. So I don’t have one best destination to suggest, but I like more guests to overnight at home stays around Cambodia.
How do you give a trip a special twist?
For VIPs or honeymooners, we ask the hotel directly to provide a special gift for them such as red wine and/or flowers. For children, I ask for an extra guide on the spot to take the parents and I make some fun for the children. I also recommend families with children to a buffet restaurant so the children can see the food and choose what they want to eat. Adults are more interested in learning about Khmer history and culture, which I like to share.
