Every month, we put the spotlight on one of the key players that make it happen for your privileged clients. This month, get to know Tanthika Buachum (Nham), Supervisor Special Sales at Khiri Travel Thailand

How are you involved with Khiri Travel?

I started in 2006, left in 2013 but came back four months later because working for a bigger company was perhaps a bit more professional but no fun at all, also not challenging, everything was rigid. Now I am Special Sales Supervisor, I’m in charge of new agents requests, and also in finding new agents.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I was born in Nakhorn Si Thammarat and I moved to Bangkok to go to university. I didn’t go back to Nakhorn Si after that anymore. I live with my older sister in Rangsit in the north of Bangkok. In my free time I practice photography, especially while travelling. I also love som tam (papaya salad), it is very spicy with crab and shrimp, but without the fermented fish sauce. If people want to eat it, they have to go to a small local restaurant. That’s Thailand: good food for good prices.

You say you like traveling, where have you traveled?

I traveled to Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. I liked the first two very much. Laos is the best, because the culture and history are very much the same as in Thailand. The way of life is also more relaxed than in Thailand.

What do you think is similar between Thai and Lao cultures?

When Thai Buddhists go to a temple they usually make a donation in order to make merit. In the early morning Thai people give food to monks on their alms rounds. In Laos they do the same. I like the Loy Krathong festival the most, I think they have that in Laos as well. It is a festival in November where Thai people use the krathong to thank the Goddess of Water.

What advice can you give an agent to promote Thailand?

There are many interesting places and experiences for the visitor to enjoy. They can sell it almost like a promotional package or a commercial: visit one country but experience lots of different things — culture, food, people, nature.
