Uga Residence, Colombo, Sri Lanka
This quiet and private boutique hotel with fine dining is in a great location from which to explore Sri Lanka’s capital city.
Colombo is Sri Lanka’s biggest city and capital. For years, visitors have avoided it for being drab and boring. We at Khiri Travel Sri Lanka think otherwise. Colombo, unlike the size and traffic of Bangkok or Jakarta, is easy to explore and currently undergoing a renewing facelift.
There are many hotels built twenty years ago that are big operations with hundreds of rooms and cater mostly for business travelers or big groups. In contrast, Uga Residence is a small boutique hotel that embodies the charm of the city. It is located right at the heart of Colombo’s Zone 2 close to Park Street. With many nearby choices in bars and restaurants, this hotel is a great place to stay for a couple of nights to explore the city.
With just about a dozen rooms, this former grand colonial home is quiet and private yet offers the amenities and services of the 21st century. Lounging by the pool with a glass of arrack (local spirits) and its central location are priceless luxuries.
The in house restaurant, Rare, is one of the finest venues in the city for fine dining. Chef Holger from Germany at the helm plays with some Sri Lankan classic cuisine but with a European touch. The wine cellar is also worth a look.
