Jungle Beach by Uga Escapes, Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka

Ghafraan Hamit of Khiri Travel Sri Lanka inspected this luxury boutique hotel. Crafted from indigenous materials, the 48 private guest villas fuse harmoniously with their natural surroundings. Each one is tucked into the cool, green foliage of the jungle for the utmost in privacy and seclusion, yet offers spectacular views of the ocean.

Located on Sri Lanka’s northwestern coast, the Jungle Beach hotel offers snorkeling with reef fish, diving with whales, jet skiing and sailing! Nearby is a temple perched atop a 400-foot cliff above the sea that attracts both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims.

The Phoenix Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Built in 1918 by a Chinese merchant during the Dutch colonial era, this 5-star hotel is an intriguing historical landmark. Over the years it has served as a hotel, consulate and private home to a famous person named Suharto.

The Phoenix is located in the city center of Yogyakarta close to the hustle and bustle of Malioboro Street known for its abundance of batik shops and street food stalls. Once inside the confines of the hotel, however, there are quiet gardens and a large pool for relaxation. The hotel also offers a quality spa in which to rejuvenate after a day of city exploration.

Cold River Guesthouse, Luang Prabang, Laos

Our Laos country manager, Chris Gramsch, inspected this guesthouse overlooking the Nam Khan riverbank in this UNESCO-listed historic town. Located on a quiet side street and only a 15-minute walk to the city’s famous night market, this small guesthouse is a family friendly place.

Luang Prabang being the most visited destination in Laos offers plenty of interesting sightseeing such as Pak Ou Caves, Kuangsi waterfalls and a stunning collection of ancient temples and monasteries to browse through. The small town streets are full of cafes and boutique shop houses.

Savoy Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar

The deluxe rooms and executive suites of this German managed 5-star hotel will remind every guest of the long gone colonial era with opulent accents such vintage teak furniture and spacious tiled bathrooms, but with all modern amenities.

Located near important historical landmarks such as Shwedagon Pagoda, Inya Lake and the best shopping places in Yangon, the Savoy Hotel is a quiet oasis in Myanmar’s hectic commercial hub. There is a relaxing swimming pool and pool bar while the Captain’s Bar inside the hotel is one of Yangon’s famous taprooms.

Kupu Kupu Beach Villas and Spa, Koh Phangan, Thailand

Christian Sutton, our Thailand Product Manager, inspected this Balinese style deluxe boutique resort. Each of the 37 guest bungalows is huge with high ceilings, stand-alone baths and artwork imported from Bali. This beachfront property is ideal for couples looking for a quiet, romantic break.

With a friendly staff and efficient service, these beach villas are also eco friendly. The stylish swimming pool looks like it wouldn’t be out of place in Miami and the restaurant serves both western and Thai dishes at surprisingly low prices.

Sofitel Legend Metropole, Hanoi, Vietnam

Built in 1901, this elegant French colonial building is internationally recognized as an historic landmark and one of the country’s most elegant hotels. Located on a broad, tree-lined avenue, the location is excellent for exploring by foot around peaceful Hoan Kiem Lake and/or the hectic fun of Hanoi’s eclectic Old Quarter as well as several stately national museums.

The hotel also offers an in house guided tour to inform guests about its turbulent history. During the war years, the hotel constructed an underground bunker to shelter the staff and distinguished guests from frequent aerial bomb attacks. Walking down into this bunker is a surreal experience and highly recommended.

The Penh Guesthouse, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

This 3-star guesthouse is a newly refurbished 1950’s era villa. The property is located down a small side street in a quiet location next door to the British Ambassador’s house and Wat Botum, a local temple. Only ten minutes, guest can walk to Phnom Penh’s bustling riverside area and the Royal Palace.

The 12 guest rooms each offer great rates for modern amenities and can accommodate up to four guests. The Penh Guesthouse is clean, bright and a perfect location for backpackers, couples or families.
