Traditional Village Baci Ceremony
Diversify your Luang Prabang experience with a trip to Ban Khomkhuang village where you take part in a unique baci or su kwan ceremony – a revered practice in Laotian culture held to celebrate important occasions, like births, marriages or entering the monkhood. The ‘calling of the soul’ ceremony offers visitors tidings of good luck and fortune for their journeys and life endeavors by gently tying cotton cords symbolizing luck, friendship and good health, around their wrists. The baci ceremony is held at a private family home in the village, not far from Luang Prabang town. After the ceremony, continue on to a hidden temple rarely visited by foreigners, where you will take part in chanting prayers and learning basic mediation skills with the temple monks – a great way to experience their daily routine!
