Foodie experience Yogyakarta

January 2, 2019 by Khiri Travel | Filed Under: ,

This tour begins at Tugu Monument – a well-known landmark in Yogyakarta – from where you can either walk, or hop in a becak (pedicab) to visit a part of town well-known for its kopi joss – coffee served with a brick of burning charcoal! Along the way you stop off in an area with many food vendors to try some of the local snacks. You then continue on by becak to Jalan Malioboro, a major shopping area, where you can try the renowned bakmi stir fried noodles from Pak Pele, a restaurant named after the Brazilian football player! Continue on to the northern alun-alun square, south of the royal palace, where you can try the legendary walk between the two banyan trees while blindfolded. From here you head to Wijilan Street to sample a variety of local snacks like gudeg – jackfruit curry, before heading to a well-know restaurant popular with students and families alike. Here you can choose from dozens of freshly made dishes cooked up in front of you. Finally, wash it all down with some colourful, flavorful drinks – like wedang uwuh (a red herbal drink), or ginger tea – a refreshing end to your Yogyakarta foodie experience!
