137 Pillars House Chiang Mai
The newest addition to our growing list of hotels that use glass water bottles is 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai, situated in Thailand’s mountainous north.
This beautiful teak house is based on the historic Baan Borneo house, which was the northern headquarters of the Borneo Trading Company in Chiang Mai 125 years ago. The resort provides complimentary drinking water in glass bottles to guests in their rooms and also in all its restaurants. Filtered tap water is also used in its restaurants and kitchen during the cooking and preparation of food.
Since its opening, the resort’s ideology has been to leave as little impact on the environment as possible. Its motivation for using refillable glass bottles is part of its ongoing policy to minimize waste and reduce energy and costs.
The resort also actively separates its plastic refuse, which is then sent to a recycling center. All organic waste from the resort’s kitchen is also turned into compost and used to fertilize the hotel gardens.
