Explore Myanmar’s Mon & Kayin heartlands in comfort—wildlife sanctuaries, Golden Rock, colonial heritage, caves, kayaking, and village life.
The journey begins with a morning departure from Yangon, heading east to Bago for a stroll through its vibrant local market. From there, guests board a short, scenic train ride to Taung Sun before continuing by car to Kelatha Wildlife Sanctuary—a protected forest rich in biodiversity and spiritual heritage. After visiting the sanctuary’s information center, a home-cooked Mon lunch is served in a nearby village. In the afternoon, a ranger-guided walk takes guests through tropical orchards and the ancient ruins of the Suvannabhumi Dynasty. The day concludes with an ascent to Golden Rock (Kyaiktiyo Pagoda), one of Myanmar’s most iconic pilgrimage sites, dramatically perched atop a cliff. After exploring the sacred site, guests return to their hotel for the evening.

The next day, after breakfast, the adventure continues toward Mawlamyine, passing historic sites believed to be linked to the ancient Mon capital and the durian-growing town of Thaton. Upon arrival in this colonial-era city, guests visit the Mon Museum, explore British-era landmarks, and tour the exquisite Seindon Mibaya Monastery, built by a former queen turned nun and known for its elegant Mandalay-style woodcarvings. The journey leads to U Na Auk village, where a tuk-tuk ride reveals ornate temples funded by U Na Auk, a legendary Mon trader known for his wit and patriotism during British rule. By late afternoon, the group travels onward to Hpa-An, arriving in time to witness a spectacular display of nature: thousands of bats emerging from a cave at sunset, an unforgettable moment in the heart of Kayin State.

The following day offers a soft adventure into the daily life and traditions of the Kayin people. The morning begins with a kayak journey through tranquil paddy fields, followed by a leisurely village walk through Kayin communities known for their vegetarian lifestyle and traditional dress. Guests enjoy a vegetarian home-cooked lunch in a Kayin home before returning by kayak and meeting their driver. In the afternoon, guests may relax or choose an optional cycling tour through Hpa-An’s lush countryside, passing local villages and rice fields with views of Mount Zwekabin, the region’s iconic peak. Along the way, there are opportunities to connect with locals over tea. The day continues with visits to the historic Kawgun Cave, filled with 7th-century Buddha carvings, and the mystical Water Cave, explored by local boat. A final walk to Yathae Pyan Cave rewards guests with a breathtaking sunset view over the rice fields.

On the final day, the journey heads back toward Kyaikto, where guests visit a local rubber plantation to learn about one of Mon State’s most important industries. There’s also a chance to taste local fruit jams, a regional specialty. A final lunch of Mon and Myanmar cuisine is served at a nearby restaurant before continuing to Bago. In the afternoon, guests board a local train bound for Yangon, offering a scenic and relaxed ride through the countryside—an ideal way to conclude this enriching journey through Myanmar’s cultural and natural heartlands.
