Uncover the charm of Salay, known for its historical sites and serene countryside, perfect for a unique exploration in Myanmar.

Just 1.5 hours south of Bagan lies Salay, a quiet village rich in history and culture, home to numerous ancient monasteries including the renowned Yokesone Monastery, famous for its intricate woodcarvings and ancient Buddha image. Nearby, the area known as Pakannge, meaning “Little Bagan,” remains largely undiscovered by tourists. This forgotten yet fascinating region reveals rural Myanmar life, ancient temples, and stories of bygone eras—many of which remain mysteries.

Over the course of two days, you’ll journey off the beaten path to discover what the Myanmar countryside truly feels like. Begin your trip by private car with a guide, heading to Pakannge. Along the way, stop at a small local factory to see how dry zone tamarind flakes are made—a short but tasty experience. From there, continue on to explore an ancient, lesser-known temple complex with hidden monasteries and rich history.
