Explore Aural Mountain and the village of Sre Ken on a 3-day trekking adventure through Cambodia’s jungle trails and remote highland beauty.

Begin your adventure in Sre Ken village, a humble rural community nestled at the foothills of Aural Mountain—Cambodia’s highest peak, rising to 1,813 meters. Sre Ken is home to members of the Por ethnic minority, whose way of life has remained closely connected to the forest for generations. Known for their deep respect for nature and spiritual traditions, the villagers live simply, relying on farming, foraging, and local craftsmanship. Their hospitality is heartfelt, and sharing a meal with them offers a glimpse into a slower, more grounded way of life.

After a hearty local lunch prepared by the villagers, we set off on a 7 km hike across relatively flat terrain, following time-worn trails used by the community for generations. With breathtaking views of Aural Mountain ahead and the sounds of birds and forest life surrounding us, the journey is both peaceful and invigorating. By late afternoon, we arrive at our first campsite—nestled in a peaceful bamboo grove near a freshwater stream. Here, you’ll unwind, enjoy a nourishing dinner, and sleep in a hammock under the jungle canopy.

Day two brings us into the heart of the Cardamom Mountains, with a 12 km trek climbing through lush jungle and over nine forested hills. This is the most demanding leg of the trek, but also the most immersive. The trail winds through dense vegetation alive with birdcalls and signs of hidden wildlife, offering a raw connection to Cambodia’s untamed natural beauty.

In the afternoon, we reach our second camp at an elevation of 1,200 meters, where a small wooden shelter—built by a local NGO—offers rustic accommodation on a first-come, first-served basis. After a rest, we continue with a short 3 km climb to the summit of Aural Mountain. At the peak, you’ll find a modest Buddhist shrine and a small spirit house where locals and trekkers alike pause to offer prayers for prosperity, health, and safe travels. The Cambodian flag waves proudly here—a reminder of the sacredness and national pride tied to this mountain. If time and weather permit, we may also visit a nearby aircraft crash site, a relic from the past veiled in mystery.

As dusk falls, we return to the second camp to spend one more night in the jungle. The air is cool and fresh—typically 16–20°C—and sometimes accompanied by light rain. Evening settles in with a misty hush, broken only by the sounds of the forest. Around a crackling fire, our team will prepare a hearty dinner, making for a cozy and memorable night under the stars.

On the final morning, wake to birdsong and crisp jungle air. After a relaxed breakfast, we descend back to Sre Ken village, retracing our steps through the tranquil forest. Upon return, a warm village-style brunch awaits, and you’ll have time to thank your local guides and hosts. It’s more than just goodbye—it’s a moment of quiet gratitude for their care, stories, and the spirit of the community that made this trek so special.

After soaking in the breathtaking sunset, the boat returns to Poto Tano Village dock, marking the end of an unforgettable journey. Whether seeking adventure, relaxation, or an immersive escape into nature, this private island-hopping experience showcases the untouched beauty of West Sumbawa.
