Current Situation by Area

Maumere

The harbour building shown in recent news reports collapsed primarily due to its poor condition rather than significant earthquake damage. There has been no significant earthquake-related damage reported in the area.

The harbour remains open, and Maumere Airport is operating, although commercial flights are not running on a daily schedule. Maumere is also serving as an important supply point for food and essential goods for people in evacuation areas.

Ende

Ende Airport is currently closed to commercial flights until 20 August, with only relief and emergency flights operating. The runway and waiting area have sustained some damage, and the airport’s signal tower has collapsed.

The surrounding villages were not significantly affected by the earthquake, and local activities have largely returned to normal.

Moni

Kelimutu Eco Lodge was not affected and remains open as usual. However, Kelimutu National Park is temporarily closed.

The traditional villages around Moni remain accessible and continue to welcome guests. Compared with the coastal areas, Moni was less affected by the earthquake.

 Riung & Mbai

This area was among the most affected by the earthquake due to its proximity to the epicentre. Riung National Park is temporarily closed, so snorkelling activities are currently unavailable.

Although there is currently no tsunami alert, some residents continue to stay in higher areas as a precaution due to ongoing aftershocks and the impact of the earthquake. Several houses in the region have been destroyed.

 Bajawa

There has been no significant earthquake-related damage reported in Bajawa. Village visits remain possible and are operating as usual, subject to local conditions.

Ruteng

Ruteng and surrounding areas were significantly affected, with more than 200 houses destroyed in some villages. Some residents continue to stay in temporary shelters or churches.

The rice-field walk remains possible, but Liang Bua Cave is currently unsafe to visit. Ruteng town is gradually returning to normal, although some surrounding communities remain in temporary accommodation. Ruteng Airport is currently closed.

 Labuan Bajo

The situation in Labuan Bajo is returning to normal relatively quickly, with limited damage compared with other affected areas of Flores.

Komodo National Park remains accessible, and tourism activities are currently operating as usual.
