Indulge Luang Prabang’s Festival of Light. Join a curated 3-day journey of fire boat parades, monks, and UNESCO heritage.

This October, we invite your clients to witness one of Southeast Asia’s most breathtaking spectacles: Boun Lai Heua Fai, the Festival of Light in Luang Prabang. As Buddhist Lent comes to a close (Ock Pansa), this UNESCO World Heritage town transforms into a glowing sanctuary of spirituality and communal harmony.

Why Luang Prabang in October?

The festival is a vibrant expression of gratitude designed to pay homage to the water spirits and wash away misfortune. Every temple and home is adorned with thousands of flickering beeswax candles and colorful flower-shaped lanterns, turning the historic streets into a golden landscape. The celebration reaches its peak with a magnificent parade of Heua Fai—enormous, intricately crafted boats made of bamboo and paper that glow with candlelight. Villagers carry these ornate vessels through the historic streets to the riverbanks before launching them onto the Mekong. Watching hundreds of glowing “fire boats” drift downstream creates a breathtaking “river of fire” that symbolizes a fresh start.

In the afternoon, UNESCO consultant Francis Engelmann provides an exclusive look at aristocratic mansions and historic Buddhist archives. The excitement builds as clients participate in a Kratong Workshop to craft their own traditional offerings.
