Looking for an unforgettable Sri Lanka honeymoon? Look no further than the stunning Malabar Hill

A Romantic Paradise in Southern Sri Lanka

On our recent team inspection trip to the Southern region of the island, we had the pleasure of visiting Malabar Hill; a hidden gem which wowed us in every possible manner. We believe that this is one of the best honeymoon getaways in the island. Weligama is mostly known for it’s beautiful bay and the ocean views but our spotlight this time lies on something more special. As you take a short drive inland, passing through small villages and paddy fields, you arrive at the destination, tucked away bordering the forest edge on a hill in the perfect seclusion.

The mastermind of Malabar Hill is Lawson Johnston, a renowned Australian designer who has made the best use of his experience of extensive travel in Asia in the integral approach to concept, architecture and embellishment. The design portrays artisan craftsmanship in blending the Sri Lankan culture with a touch of Mediterranean architecture. Due to the nature and concept of the property, they only welcome guests above 12 years of age.

Sleep & Stay

The property consists of 14 Pool Villas dispersed across a huge span of land, designed with attention to detail and ensuring absolute privacy. The views from the private pools are to die for and is definitely a unique selling point in itself. Some villas offer Ocean views while some offer views of the countryside over the wetland sanctuary. In an exception to the norm, we believe that the countryside views here are even better than the ocean views, especially during sunset. The simple furniture with an antique touch further gives a sense of uniqueness. Meals can also be served on the private terrace of each villa, allowing absolute privacy for honeymooners.

The Food of Love

It would be a crime not to have a special mention of the food served here. As soon as you see the choices for your welcome drink, one instantly will realize that you are up for a treat for the tastebuds during your entire stay. Similar to the architecture, the food menus pay tribute to the Sri Lankan heritage with a blend of the Mediterranean cuisine, making it a delightful fusion.

The team of chefs are not shy of experimenting and keeps on continuously reviewing the menus and recipes. The ambiance of the restaurant and the variety of locations where food can be served simply adds on to the experience. For honeymooners, their signature floating breakfast is a must try at least once during a stay.

Being located in an area of immense bio-diversity, starting from design a conscious attempt has been made to make sure that the property blends in with its natural surroundings. In a time when some well-known international hotel chains have built sky crappers along the Weligama bay, this is simply a breath of fresh air.

The entire property is vehicle free except for electric tuk tuks and buggy cars, ensuring minimal sound pollution. The operation is entirely Single-use plastic free and organic, homegrown and local ingredients feature prominently on the preparation of food.

Wellness, Spa & Yoga

For those who look forward to some pampering during their honeymoon, their spa offers world class treatments with an Ayurvedic touch, ranging from deep healing to light indulgences. Starting from your own rooftop, the property has plenty of locations which are ideal for Yoga.

Activities & Experiences

While this is the ideal place to just relax in your villa and do nothing at all, there are plenty of activities and experiences on offer for those who are interested. The main infinity pool is 35m in length if you fancy a few strong strokes. Just next to the pool area lies a library with a reading lounge. For the culinary freaks, you could join a chef for an interactive cooking session with an in-depth knowledge on Sri Lankan cooking techniques and spice. If you are looking for a further adrenaline pump, you could set out on a cycle ride along the countryside where different trails are on offer.
